New Moon in Aries - Structured Change in Action ⛏

New Moon in Aries 2019 - Energetic Principles

Spring is here... can you feel it? See it? Smell it? The flowers are blooming all around here in Southern California as we are having the biggest "superbloom" of wildflowers that we've had in years, and just about anywhere you walk you are going to see the signs of this fresh and abundant growth. The bloom is so magnanimous that you can see it from space as Mother Nature breathes fresh life into the plant kingdom. The vibrance of Aries season and new beginnings is at our feet and it's a wonderful sight to behold!

Aries, as a sign, is known for its bold courageousness and the ability to focus a strong will into independent action towards that which the self desires. There is a spontaneous fire that crackles and pops from the inside, where the energy quickens and enthusiasm is at the ready to instigate life changes or begin projects that speak to what inspires. It's a forceful energy that can blaze on through if we are not careful with it, yet it is also the firestarter that can bring passion to the forefront and get the ball rolling. The pioneering spirit of the self lives within this energy and we now have access to this gateway so that we may fearlessly try things differently than we ever have before.

Exact on Friday, April 5th at 1:50am PST - this New Moon is bringing to us the birth of a new ego, which is a yearly undertaking when the luminaries meet in the sign of the Ram, yet this year embodies a different flavor now that Uranus has completed its 8 year tour through Aries, shaking up the identity connection within this area of our charts. So here we stand at a significant pivot point for 2019 and one that has been several years in the making via an electric nuance that had been rattling our cages and shaking out what no longer serves. Within this new framework we are now compelled to take action and turn over new leaves in our stories, while the emergence of the Spring season inspires the blossoming of growth all around us.

The Aspects - Digging Deep & Airing Out 🌬

Below is a chart of our New Moon at the time of conjunction here in San Diego, CA. We have quite the set-up here as Saturn, Pluto and the South Node all square in to the luminary conjunction, while Mars in Gemini helps lighten the density of this configuration. So let's not waste any time and dive right in...

New Moon in Aries 2019 - Astrology Chart - Energetic Principles

Let's start with that dynamic square configuration between the Sun & Moon in Aries to Saturn, Pluto and the South Node in Capricorn. These were the aspects that inspired my image representative "Jackhammer Granny" as she fits the Aries / Capricorn bill rather nicely! There is considerable force in this new moon as the hard work and big tasks of Saturn combine with the transformative and purifying energy of Pluto, all while the South Node provides a karmic release point (and at times a few boobie traps) that we are asked to navigate personally and collectively at this time. Capricorn represents the wisdom of the elder and the structural Saturnian components that make up our earthly lives, and here comes our Aries gram and her jackhammer to come in and break new ground, while also having to disrupt and destruct the previously solid foundation.

Wisdom (I hope) has brought us to this point of creating change, especially after a watery Mercury RX in Pisces had us examining our emotional quality of life while Neptune tuned our antennas into what was needing to be let go, what required a compassionate approach, and why spirit is as important in the material realm as it is in the ethereal one.

The cardinal nature of this configuration is helping along the initiation of climbing whatever mountain is set before us knowing that the effort put in and the changes made will be truly satisfying when it's all said and done, yet this lunar period does give us considerable energy to contend with. Pages turn and we are likely to find life speeding up and demanding much of us in the process, while occasional roadblocks may stop us in our tracks.

The new moon ruler, Mars in Gemini, does help to lighten the load as our action energy will be more breezy, carefree, and ready to roll with whatever arrives. Our mental faculties now tune in with our assertive selves, and by the end of the lunar cycle - when Mercury in Aries meets Mars in mutual reception - we will be off to the races and have a solid action plan in place, where our mind and motive are one. Yet there is likely to be a lot of back and forth, and possible fragmentation along the way.

Having Mars in Gemini natally, I know that it can help to get the social party started, communicate ideas, inject a youthful exuberance into whatever it is we do; yet it also has the ability, in its jack-of-all-trades approach, to scatter its energy in many different directions, so we do run the risk at this time of having too many irons in the fire. Especially with the Aries "go get 'em" / "fools rush in" vibe, we may find ourselves taking on and juggling so much at once that nothing is getting the full attention that Saturn conjunct the South Node will be asking of us. So keep that in mind when something shiny draws you in or you find that all the sudden you have a mean case of ADHD.

Keep your focus and meditate to align the mind with your goals, for we have this dynamic energy that can really help us break ground but only if we are able to stay the course and not get wrangled into distractions that pull us off track. The monkey mind will be more than active, so find your mental center, get your plan in place, and keep it light enough that the heaviness that has contributed to fear or procrastination can subside so the work can be done.

The Symbol - Dancing Into The Sunset 💃

If you are a previous reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up. Here we have the following:

16° Aries - "Brownies dancing in the setting sun."

Keyword: Invigoration

Theme: The Dance of Life

Now I was assuming that they were talking about Brownies in the Girl Scouts, a well-known organization that was founded in Savannah, Georgia 13 years prior to the Sabian Symbols being intuited right here in San Diego's Balboa Park in 1925. Yet, upon further research, the term Brownie is also representative of a good natured elf or fairy that performs helpful services at night. You learn something new everyday!! So Mars in Gemini...

So the meaning of the dance taking place as the sun is setting now becomes much clearer, as the fairies do their good deeds at night and are found in celebration as the setting sun gives way to the beginning of their joyous work day... err I mean night. We too are to feel invigorated for the work that lies ahead and the beginning of the tasks on the horizon, and if we are not, Saturn will play his role in helping spark the fire out of necessity. With the sunset theme also prominent, it speaks to the circle of infinity and how as one day ends another one is surely birthed in its place, adding even more prominence to the beginnings that are taking place.

Let us all celebrate in this cyclical change, honoring what we are moving on from and letting go of - consciously refusing to fight for what has run its course - for Aries does not cling to the past, rather it enthusiastically rushes towards the future while embracing the power of the now, knowing that staying present is part and parcel in the dance of life.

May this time be as productive and life changing as I think it has the potential to be, for we are all ready to move on with our lives and experience the newness of our own personal Spring!
