Solar Eclipse in Cancer - Changing Scenery 🌜🌚🌛

Solar Eclipse in Cancer 2019 - Energetic Principles

The second eclipse season of 2019 is upon us! After six months of twists and turns in the celestial skies, we now approach another spin of the cosmic wheel for eclipses seek to move us along in life and sometimes we can find ourselves sitting comfortably on the top of the wheel and other times we are clutching for dear life down at the bottom, but either way, movement is always guaranteed.

The Cancer / Capricorn axis is one that highlights the polarities of the Mother and the Father; on one side we have the nurturing of a more feminine, sensitive and connective type of energy and on the other we encounter a more masculine, rigid, and separative influence. Both like control yet Cancer knows how to better engage with the ebb and flow of life, as tides change along with the hearts and needs of people. The crab has great tenacity though, and where there is a soft and vulnerable underbelly, there is also a great strength. Cancer is not one to move directly toward the goal, yet there is more of a crisscross of indirect energy, suggesting that this upcoming eclipse will be less straightforward and more about indirect shifts and adjustments that lead us down the inevitable path we are setting out to create.

Exact on Tuesday, July 2nd at 12:16pm PDT - this Solar Eclipse in a cardinal water sign is providing a significant and emotional pivot point for this year, as we seed in new conditions that are aligned with the North Node end of the spectrum - an area where we gain a hunger that allows us to push forward into growth. The natural archetype of Cancer is one that is creation oriented, and even though there are likely to be some obstacles to get through and necessary changes to embrace, we are creating a new life in our personal realm that is, in turn, going to affect our functioning in the outer World. Sensitivity may trigger us to pull back into our crab shells, yet tucking ourselves away won't bring the good stuff that this eclipse can bring once the tougher issues have been dealt with... so on the road, ahead we will need to muster up that strength and find compassion for ourselves and others in the process.

The Aspects - The Wheel Of Fortune Turns 🎡

Below is a chart of our New Moon at the time of conjunction here in San Diego, CA. There is a lot of action taking place, or shall I say preparing to take place! The Sun & the Moon align at the eclipse in opposition to the pile-up of Saturn, Pluto and the South Node in Capricorn, Mercury is slowing down to station retrograde, and both the messenger and Mars in Leo are configured to create friction with Uranus. So let's not waste any time and dive right in...

Solar Eclipse in Cancer 2019 - Astrology Chart - Energetic Principles

When I look at this chart, the clear signature that pops out instantaneously is the Sun and Moon conjunct the North Node in Cancer and in opposition to Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node in Capricorn. This is a heavy pile-up for sure as Saturn questions the viability of our boundaries and longterm structures and with the second pass of the stark reality of the Taskmaster to the transiting South Node, we are in store for another purge of burdens from our lives. The road will only get heavier if we don't release now and confront the obstacles that may be standing in the way of the new creations that are looking to be born. Perhaps it's a fear or insecurity of going after what our heart wants, or where we are mired in responsibilities and systems that are not our own but we feel conflicted whether to nurture ourselves or other people's agendas. These are just a few examples of the particular road blocks, yet with Pluto sitting in the mix, change is a necessary component as we reconfigure our boundary systems for forward momentum, and shifting foundations will present themselves no matter if we are ready for it or not.

If you want to see a pre-cursor of the energy we can look to both Mars and Mercury who have already crossed over these points and have dropped celestial breadcrumbs to better understand our eclipse journey. This is why journalling can be so beneficial, for when we go back in time (something Cancer loves to do!) we can get a better understanding of ourselves in that moment, for hindsight is always 20/20. Plus seeing repetition of your ideas, your wants, and your needs, will help to remove any self-doubt or insecurity that may be in place, because clearly it isn't a flight of fancy, but more a valid soul yearning. I went back in my own journal and was quite shocked at how my entries for May 31st - June 1st (Mars conjunct eclipse point) and June 9th - 11th (Mercury conjunct eclipse point) completely line up with my own projected eclipse journey... so rifle through your memories and see if any significant leads come up!

And lest we not forget, that this is a potent Solar Eclipse in the sign that is ruled by the Moon, so it goes without saying that there will be strong emotional content derived from this lunation, and the navigation of life's ebb and flow will be the key to success as we move forward. The winds are beginning to shift and there is still the possibility of changes of heart down the way.

Two factors that contribute to disruptions and re-evaluations both lie in the Mercury and Mars story, with the two now sitting in the heart-centered fires of Leo. At the time of the eclipse, Warrior Mars has just ingressed into the lion's den and is on approach to make a square with the "Great Awakener" Uranus on July 11th - so we can expect some unexpected disruptions to the energetic flow as a period of volatility is likely to invigorate us towards changing up areas that were once previously fixed.

Adding to that is Mercury stationing to retrograde on July 7th, creating an active "storm" period as the planet slows to a halt and pulls out all the stops with its legendary bag of tricks. Although the messenger doesn't perfect its square with Uranus until after the retrograde cycle, there is still that shaking and quaking in the mental and communicative air, with the potential for drama to heat up. We are likely to get the fodder we need to review during this week as Mercury will spend the rest of the eclipse season in retrograde motion, only to then station direct on the upcoming Lunar Eclipse point the very day we have our next New Moon in the sign of Leo on July 31st. So we are inching along to great growth in August, yet this period serves to raise the tide and shift the sand beneath our feet. Our comfort level is likely to drop and there will be instability in the air, yet with the Nodes in a supportive configuration with Neptune in Pisces, the experience is tailor made to cleanse our emotional selves as we calibrate towards the next stage of our spiritual evolution.

The Symbol - A Sense of Humor 😂

If you are a previous reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up. Here we have the following:

11° Cancer - "A clown making grimaces."

Keyword: Inimitability

Theme: Keeping A Sense Of Humor

I found this to be a laughable symbol - pun intended I suppose! - particularly because this Solar Eclipse is greatly tied up in the chart of the United States of America and some would say, including myself, that we do have a bit of a clown at the helm of the country! Yet I digress...

On another note, I think this symbol serves as an excellent piece of advice to keep a sense of humor as we go through these potentially trying times, because if we spend too much time in the Capricorn end of the spectrum, we may take life so seriously that we rob ourselves of the potentiality of joy... and we don't want to do that! Life is hard enough as it is, so let's err to lighten things up. Perhaps we just need a bit more child-like silliness in a world that is over-run with somberness. Now I'm not saying disregard all the heavier topics that need our attention, rather I'm suggesting that we find a balance so that our souls don't get weighed down unnecessarily.

Lastly, a clown is known for their self-expressive craft and we may be now going over the face that we present to the World. There is a sense of drama here as well, which may suggest that it would be beneficial to look at our reactionary selves. Do we tend to bring lightness to a heavy situation? Do we tend to overdramatize a scenario that is rather light? In other words, do we express ourselves by making mountains out of molehills, or are we more inclined to be able to see the silver lining and bring joy to whatever it is we encounter. Simple adjustments like these may be just what is needed to reconfigure how we react internally and how we interact externally... for those conscious corrections can make all the difference in the reality we create.

New Moon Blessings to All!! 💫

Impactful new beginnings are before us as the wheel turns and we surf the wave that is headed towards the shore! Solar eclipses in cardinal signs configured to the North Node only come around so often, so you can consider this a deeply powerful pivot point that is changing the scenery of our lives for some time to come. It may take time to fully execute due to the indirect nature of the energy, yet I think by the time we reach 1st quarter in Libra on July 9th (my birthday no less!) a kickstart of action will be set in motion and we will see with greater clarity where this is all headed.

Wishing everyone a fantastic lunar month!

May the stars be with you!!! ✨✨✨
